Five Tips On Caring For Your Lingerie
We do not use lingerie everyday but only on very special occasions that are worth dressing up for. But after that one night, along comes the difficult task of washing and cleaning these delicate pieces.
Lingerie are mostly made of very delicate material – or to put it more clearly, very delicate and expensive material such as satin, silk and lace. Thus, we should be nothing less than gentle when it comes to washing and storing these precious pieces. Here are tips you ought to know about caring for your lingerie and making them last as long as possible.
1. Before going to the washing machine and simply throwing your lace lingerie inside, read the washing instructions found at the inner side of the material first. You wouldn't want to have that lacy chemise torn into shreds after cleaning. And after you've read the instructions, please do follow them. This simple little instruction would mean the life and death of your piece.
2. If you are planning to wash your lingerie yourself, then use the mildest detergents that you could find. Any detergent less than that can make the color of your piece faded and dull. Most lingerie requires gentle hand washing. These should never be rubbed or stretched or these could lose their form. But if you want to risk using a washing machine to wash your piece, then use the easy wash. Very delicate material could be torn when machine-washed too vigorously - and nobody would want that.
3. Never, never put your lingerie in the dryer. I know that the dryer has brought so much help into our lives but not this time. Lingerie should always be air dried if you are still planning to wear it again. Machine drying with all the heat could lose the form of your delicate lingerie and even destroy its natural hue.
4. Dry clean if possible. For pieces made up of satin or silk, it is much preferred to leave the cleaning to the experts. Dry cleaning not only protects the form of the piece but the color of the material as well. If you are afraid to put the life of your lingerie in the hands of a stranger, then you could always do the dry cleaning yourself. There are available kits in the market for dry cleaning at home. Just remember, read and understand the instructions first before starting the process.
5. Store your lingerie according to the type of material. Lingerie is made up of different materials and should be stored accordingly. For silk and satin, iron them first in very low heat to remove creases, fold and store in your undergarment closet. For leather on the other hand, this would require a different treatment. Hang leather lingerie using wooden or plastic hangers to help preserve its shape and form.
Lingerie may not be worn as often as our regular underwear but the next time we need it, it should be as pretty as when first worn. So take care of your pieces and these will definitely take care of you!
